Arboretum Area Transportation Plan Update

An update from the Carver County Public Works Department:

The Arboretum Area Transportation Plan (AATP) was a visioning study that resulted in a plan to address transportation needs and priorities in Chaska, Chanhassen, and Victoria. The study was completed in early 2021.

AATP funding status

Since you last heard from us, Carver County and its partners have been working diligently to secure funding for certain projects that were captured in the plan. The 2023 State Legislative session was particularly successful in helping to shrink our funding gap:
– $20 million dollars was earmarked for Highway 5 improvements.
– $10 million dollars was secured for the 82nd Street Project in Chaska.

With this additional funding, the 82nd Street Project is fully funded through construction and we have about 75% of what we need to complete Highway 5 improvements from the east side of Victoria into Chanhassen.

We’ll continue to pursue more funding through future sessions and grant opportunities. The 82nd Street Project is anticipated to be constructed in 2024 through 2025 and the construction of Highway 5 improvements will begin in fall 2025.

Upcoming events and ways to stay connected
We are just starting preliminary design for both the Highway 5 and 82nd Street projects, which will take some time to develop and require a lot of careful decision-making along the way. We want your input on some of decisions, too. How these projects are built will be determined over the next two years.

We are planning to host a public meeting for both projects in early fall. In the meantime, we’ll be developing informational materials and each project will have a new webpage (coming soon!).Please use the links below to follow our progress and receive email announcements.
