DNR’s Clean In/Clean Out Training for AIS Prevention

Clean In Clean Out training is a short online or home study class available to anyone interested in learning about AIS laws in Minnesota. The training is free.

Anyone convicted of or subject to a final order for a violation of Minnesota Statute 84D (Aquatic Invasive Species law) involving water-related equipment must successfully complete this class before continuing to operate or use water-related equipment.

AIS violations include:

Transporting aquatic plants on public roads
Launching with plants attached
Transporting or possessing prohibited species
Launching into waters with AIS attached
Failure to drain water/failure to have drain plug out
Transporting water without a permit

The online class takes about 20-30 minutes to finish. There are a few optional sections that can add a little more time but are not required to complete the course. At the end of the class, you will be asked to enter your name (and citation number, if applicable). You will receive a certificate after completing the class to keep for your records. You will be able to use your boat or other water-related equipment. If you don’t pass the test, you can continue to take the class until you pass.
